Thanks for asking the question Bigb123 - after being in a "no wings, no build" frame of mind for the last 30 years or so (thanks to a tracked disaster, followed immediately by a wheeled disaster), I ordered the Topol & it arrived todayYes

Waynec - I haven't been modelling for a while now, but hope to cut out some time this winter to get back to it, so thanks for the offer, I'm keeping an eye on your build & I may be in touch.

Just too cool not to do;

i am building one in the BRAILLE SCALE GB. actually 2 since i goofed the paint job for the camo on the launch mode one so will repaint it dark green. the second will be camoed i hope and in travel mode. may build a storage building for it too. it's a nice kit, good fit BUT there are some construction areas that need to be followed exactly, some that shouldn't be, and don't work on it tired. there are 14 tire mounts and they aren't the same. if you decide to build it message me and i'll get specific with what to look for. it is cool.

Armour isn't really my type of thing to be honest, but that Topol kit DOES look interesting the more I look at it!

Yes, Milairjunkie, I think  you are right.  It does look like a heavy crane based prop.  And, there is no way my skills are good enough to modify a kit or scratchbuild anything like it.  I may just go with the Zvezda Topol kit.   Thanks so much to you and skitpusher for your help!

I'm not completely sure on this, but I believe it's a prop of a Russian ICBM launcher based on a Grove crane chassis, possibly the TM2500. The film was released in 85 at a time when genuine stuff like this wasn't readily available, so the idea of it being a prop seems pretty likely.

One of the few screenshots from the film that I can find shows the vehicle with typical crane wide span type outriggers, but most Russian launchers only have support feet that drop vertical down from the vehicle (no side load to be concerned with), so this is in keeping with the Grove prop idea.

The Zvezda Topol SS-25 launcher that intermittently appears in the side bar advert on this site is quite close to it (the real thing is quite close to the prop - how ironic is that?).

Missile Type Question
Posted by Bigb123 on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 12:01 AM

Hello,

Does anyone know what kind of missile was used in the movie "Spies Like Us" ?  Does any manufacturer make a kit of it and the transport?

Thanks!!
