Yep. Step over to the last few pages of the Panther group build and you can see some pictures of my Panther in progress with zimmerit on it. This, of course is a different pattern than you might be using.

I've had a lot of fun doing the zimm. It's pretty rough when I get through with it, but I guess it looks okay. I'm no where near an expert like Moses is (whom we haven't heard from for months, by the way). I use Tamiya's Polyester Putty to do the zimm with the tools.

Good luck.

Phil,
i have a set as well, but i only used it to touch up around the PE Zim that
came w/ my Panther.

Moses is the Zim Wizard, but he has been out of site since his baby arrived.

Allright guys, the German Armor freak has arrived. Yes, I have used(use) the Tamiya zimmerit tools. I have done three tigers with zimmerit with the tools and I love them! It is a little tricky in the begining, but the results are great! I actually got most of my ideas from the FSM section in May of 2002 about zimmerit. I use Squadron white putty, which is why the process is tricky but If you want great zimmerit results, put down the screw driver and pick up the tools. The only real problem is after each postage-size section you do you have to constantly clean the small points and get all the putty out (if you use apoxy putty you don't have this problem). I use Tamiya liquid cement to clean it off. Another thing: it comes with 0.5 and 0.7mm sizes. I use the .7 size. the .5 is just too small for 1/35 scale. If you want to do realistic zimmerit the kit is way worth it! Cool [8D]

Gum Ka (or is it Lion Roar) has a set of tools out that is supposed to be better, but I've never seen them anywhere but on e-bay.

I have the Tamiya zimmerit tool set, but have not used it yet. I am going to be getting a Tiger and want to do homemade zimm on it.

Do a search for Moses and Zimmerit and you'll find pictures of the KTII he did. Looks just terrific. He did it with the Tamiya tools and polyester putty.

I've always used the screwdriver method but when I saw how nice Moses results were I just had to give it a try.

I just made a tool to do a 1/16 Tiger and used the polyester putty. I really like this stuff. It has a nice setup time. It gives you enough time to do minor tooling after doing the main areas which is great. It sets up nice and hard but you can chip away at it if you want. Thats what I'm gonna try and do.

Its just my personal opinion but I think the screwdriver method looks more authentic on a Tiger I. But the tooled zimmerit looks authentic on a KTII. I'll have to finish my Tiger I that I tooled the zimmerit on to see the results and then judge.

Another 2 sets that look very good are made by Gum-Ka:

Granted more pricey than the Tamiya set, but seems to be more versatile.

Hey those look good and cost less than the Tamiya ones I bought. I wonder what shipping would cost and how long it would take to get here.

From HobbyLink, shipping shows to be $3.45 or $10.90 depending on how fast you want them. I especially like the looks of the curved ones on set #2.
