Sherman DD
Posted by DanCooper on Thursday, March 4, 2004 2:14 AM
Hi guys a few days ago I saw a show on National Geographic Channel about the discovery of a Sherman DD tank somewhere off the coast of Sicily (It), I was wondering if there are any kits on this subject, since I had never heard of this machine before.
With kits I don't mean resin stuff...

There's a great article by Zaloga in one of the very latest Militaty Modelling magazine on how to convert the cheap but good 1/72 Italeri /ESCI kit into a DD...

In 1/35, I think Resicast of Belgium has one, but you'll need deep pockets!

In any case, with your screen name, I was expecting you to post in the aircraft forum, not here..!?!! LOL

Thanks for the info dj, actually I'm kind of allround modeler I make motorcycles, planes, boats and armor.
The deep pockets however are the reason why I stated not to be looking for a resin kit...

I think that's the same DD tank that was or is promised to the Patton Museum... we can only hope.

What, exactly, is the DD version? It hasn't got 2 turrets, has it?

DD=Duplex Drive. A swim barrier was erected and the duplex drive powered a pair of propellors. Tanks were released from landing ships and swam to shore. Most of them flounder in the rough seas. Some actually made it to shore. DD Shermans used the late hull (large hatch) M4A1 with the 75mm turret.

The one recovered took part in training exercises in England prior to D-Day.
