Thanks for the reply Rob. I have a wasted Trumpeter M1 w/c has the lifting ring on the tail light. We were thinking about changing Academy's rear with the one on Trumpeter but we decided to cancel the idea since the Academy M1 is a bit way too old (though the box recommends it served in Iraq 2003).

Out of topic:

I just realised as well that Academy M1A1's turret is kinda a bit short. I compared it with Trumpeter.

Thanks Rob! : )

It is simple a variation in the manufacturing process. the one with a cut out and a lifting ring is a newer built tank. The one with the solid tail light guard is an older tank. I would imagine you could see a USMC tank with either set up based on the age of the tank.

M1A1 Tail light hook

Hi fellow scale modelers! Got another M1 question and it's driving us nuts already. We are building a 1/35 M1A1. This M1 is the Academy M1A1 Iraq 2003. It's an entry level kit for my buddy who is just starting with our lovely hobby.

We hit a roadblock along the way. We've noticed that on photos, there are 2 kinds of tail lights for the M1. One is with a hook and the other is no hook. Kindly please see the link below for reference.

Question is, w/c is the right tail light for a USMC M1 build with MCD and APU? The one with a hook or the one without? Thanks!
