Success with the Swap meet
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, March 4, 2004 4:58 PM
Last Sunday there was a toy swap meet at the Dupage County Fairgrounds (found out through FSM's "upcoming events") and I managed to find some good deals.

I found a box full of Tamiya figures for $5 each, including a 20mm Flak gun. I also found a FAMO halftrack with a 20mm Flak gun, a Panther late, and an M3A2 halftrack all for $20 each. These were all Tamiya kits. All the kits have all their pieces, and were still shrink-wrapped.

My friend, a flyboy, found a 1/72 B-52 from monogram for $25.

Have any of you guys had success at swap meets? if so what were your best deals?

Around my way , nothing ever happens. Wow, a Panther late for $20 and no shipping, what a kill.

Hey Eric, do you know a young teacher there in Vancouver named Jeff Reed? He is my nephew...Moved to that area a year ago from Springfield, Oregon.

There isn't too much, around here, in the terms of swap meets. There is, however, a huge flea market about a 2 hr drive south of me.

They are supposed to be many kits regularly available there. I will have to make the drive down there to check it out.

wow, that's great ddayomaha. I"m dying of jealousy. You really got some steals there. Around here, I've never heard of a swap meet, so I've never been able to get anything like that, althought I"ve allways been hoping. You'd think in a city as big as Toronto there'd be something. Ah well. There is a modeling meet next weekend and I'm hoping I'll find something good there :)

I don't get to many swap meets, but I did find a Tamiya KV1 and an old Adams M52 155mm Howitzer Motor Carriage for $2 each in a local antique store. I also went to a garage sale where a woman was selling off her late husband's collection of 1/72 kits.. Lots of brail scale armor. Didn't buy any though... did get his M1 helmet with some nice original hand painted Korean War markings on it for the 3rd Infantry, 64th Armor and his 1st Lt. rank soldered to the front. Even some white paint scuffs on top from inside of his Sherman. Who can argue with that!?
