Airfield vehicles
Posted by Keyworth on Friday, March 5, 2004 10:29 PM
A while back I posted a request for help looking for vehicles in 1/72 scale and 1/48th scale that would be found around a typical WWI US or RAF airfileld. I'm afraid I've lost my list of links when I got hit by one of the myriad of viruses running rampant lately (curious 6-year-old in the house!) I'd appreciate the help of the members locating kits for trailers, trucks, fuel bowsers, etc. for a couple of ideas I'm toying with. Thanks in advance. - Ed

Hi Ed, airfix did an airfield recovery set with a bedford truck and "queen mary" trailer and a couple of m/cycles and a truck with a coles crane on it. i think it may be a current kit but i am not too sure. if you want one and can't find it shoot me an e-mail and i will probably be able to sort one out for you. they also did a crash rescue set with an ambulance and fire tender and an airfield refueling set too. also the matador truck in one of the other sets wouldn't look out of place on an airfield either.
also check out whats available in the model railway section of your lhs. they may have some useful model trucks in there.

oops just looked at he link posted above. they're two of thesets i mentioned.

Ed,

The Airfix Airfield Recovery Set was not one of the best models.(Thats my personal feeling) It isnt exactly 1/72 scale its around 1/76...It would work decently with another kit but it really isnt a great kit.Not a lot of detail.

Thanks, Greg, Matt and Dan. I have all the Airfix Airfield kits: Rescue, Refueling and Recovery. I also have the Control Tower kit. I'm looking for the other stuff, like Cargo trucks, quarter ton trucks, staff cars, bicycles, trailers, other refuelling and emergency vehicles. Greg, do the Matado Models kits seem to be decent builds? I can't find them on this side of the pond. - Ed

SMA have been releasing a number of 1/72 figure sets for RAF airfields (crew pushing planes and pilots (seated and standing), WAF, MPs...
