1/32 Renwal Ontos question

Revell now owns the Renwall molds and reissued it.  The kit is pretty soft on details and isn't really worth it.  The molds are from the '70s.  I would get the Academy M50.  It is a much nicer kit.

I have some pictures online of my 1983 Revell reissue and an original Renwal version I was given in 2001. I loved the kit when I saw a built one as a kid and bought the reissue when I was in college. I was given a partially built kit to repair my first kit. Other than for nostalgia, it really isn't worth the effort with the Academy one readily available.

A quick eBay search shows the Academy one marginally more than the current Revell reissue. Interestingly, I see the first Revell reissue only going for $13. These are kits that used to go for around $50 before the Academy kit was released.

Here is a link to my old thread when I finally got around to messing with it. The inner road wheels are solid, but should be spoked like the outer ones. I used outer road wheels from the second kit to modify them to be inner road wheels. I stuck this kit back in the box and haven't looked at it in a while.

It is actually a model of the prototype not the production version. The cooling grills

on the front are wrong, each rifle barrel is 3 parts, there is more but you get the idea.

Thank you. The two local hobby shops, both national chains,. suck with their selection. I have a 4 day weekend and was jonesing to build something. Their selection of armour is terrible.

both my original and 1983 reissue had some mold slip and sink holes. I'm not sure of the quality of today's reissue, but it would be a fun build, just not even close to modern standards. No amount of sanding can get rid of mold lines, that's how bad the slip is. Anything round needs to be replaced with styrene tubing or rod. The one piece vinyl tracks are probably the best part of this kit!
