Posted by lizardqing on Sunday, March 7, 2004 6:10 PM
Just wanted to get you guy's opinion on if I need stoip weathering this one and just get the tracks and pastels on it finally. Don't know where to stop on this one for some reason. Plus what sort of accessories would have been hung on this and where. The kit did'nt come with any but I have some geramn jerry cans and stuff laying around getting bored with nothing to do. Thanks as always.

Whoo hooo Chris!! Looking good bro Big Smile [:D]Thumbs Up [tup]

Like any war vehicle you can put about anything in/on it. Jerry cans for sure, any clothing, helmets, weapons etc. Go for it, just lay it on loose till you decide what you like.

I'm with Eric on the accessories.
I'm starting to feel left out now. I don't have a Marder.............yet. Wink [;)]

Wow, looking really good, LQ2. Nicely weathered Marder.

I agree with the guys. Might be a good time to stop. You might need to do some touch-up weathering later when all the add-ons are in place.

Chris, I'd stop there. You can get carried away if you're not careful. Another great build, bro!

Looks great Chris.

These baby's usually had a tarp cover for the russian weather, so a rolled up tarp would be one clear suggestion. Then how about duffel bags, tent pack, blanket rolls, etc. Seeing as the vehicle is so open, a nice touch is a box with cooking utensils in it, ie, frying pan, saucepan, coffe pot, big spoon or ladle, etc. The box can be an old ammo crate or make one from sheet and strip styrene like the utensils. For the frying pan, cut a disk of styrene and add a piece of an old PE fret around the edge for the pan lip. Then make the handle from plastic strip (if you put the handle over the join in the PE it will help hide the join and make it stronger at the same time.

I did this for one of my old dio's and it was surprising how much attention it got for such a small part of the overall thing.

Thanks guys. Got to give Erush some credit though. After seeing his win that 1st place, told myself that there was no way I could let him of all people out do me. Big Smile [:D]Evil [}:)] This is one great kit, don't even remember most of the buid it went so smooth.
Peter- Those are some great ideas. Definatly have to give some a try. Just knew I kept that pe fret for a reason.

Chris,

Very nice!! Great looking build. As far as if you should weather the vehicle more, or not, it is hard to tell with those photos. As a general rule for weathering: stop when you think that it just needs one or two more touch ups here or there. Just my My 2 cents [2c]. Once again, great looking model!!

I really like your Marder Chris. I reckon you could stop there with the weathering, it's looks great at the moment. Adding some miscellaneous gear as the others have suggested would look fantastic, good luck and keep posting pics. I love SPG's.Big Smile [:D]

Chris: As the old modeling saying goes ..... if you have to ask when to stop weathering you have done enough! It looks great ! The 2 colour camo is looking good , and what a great little kit too huh ? I bought it just last week ( along with aber detials , and now am wondering why I wasted the money on the aber kit to begin with ! As far as hanging junk on your Marder goes .... I have seen pix of the seats next to the gun ( must be removeable) hung off the sides, binoculars , ( you may also want to have a rangefinder tossed in the compartment somewhere ) also have seen helmuts hung somewhere and maybe a gasmask kit ( as if the allies ever had to resort to cheating to win huh ?) Maybe a spent shell or 2 inside . And most of all muddy that fighting compartment up , them guys must have been in and out of that machine on a regular basis! Cool [8D]

Ed- It is amazing how much you can get done on some models without that pesky work thing getting in the way of building time. Big Smile [:D]

Spector- I'm sure you will enjoy building it. The detail set really is not needed for this one. Only am parts on this one is the Jordi barrel.

Wow, the finish is great. So realistic. I can't see clearly from the pics, but if anything, maybe some chipped paint would finish off the weathering, I think.

Chris, I think it looks fantastic. Wow! What a nice job. I really like the grey and dunkelgelb paint combination. Did you do it oob? It makes me want to run home and start on my IIIM! But I'm determined to not start on another model (at least not a 1/35) until I get some of the "half-builts" out of the way!

Someone may have already said this, but Verlinden makes a Marder stowage set. I just can't remember if it's for a III or a IIIM (I really think it's the M), but I'm sure there would be lots of parts in there that could be used for either. Might just have to be arranged differently.

Good luck and thanks for letting us see your latest masterpiece!
