M934 5 Ton Expando Van
Posted by jezones on Saturday, April 18, 2015 9:51 PM

I've been asked by a couple people to post a log of my build of my old truck so here I go.  I'm attempting to build another one of my trucks from my Army days.  This one is Bravo 215 of the 26th Forward Support Battalion, 3rd Infantry Division.  I'm using the Italeri M925 shelter truck as the base for this build.  This kit is kinda old so its a very basic kit lacking a lot of details.  I'll be using a lot of aftermarket parts to bring it more up to date.  The main change to the model will be the Expando van conversion kit from Real Model, its a big chunk of resin.   So far I've stretched the frame, added a number of pieces of resin to it and started fitting of the engine and cab.  With all this resin the model is getting to be heavy.

So far everything has fitted very well.  The one thing i noticed was i needed to stretch the frame in the back as well as the middle.  the instructions only called for 25 mm in the middle between the axles.  I found that it needed another 10 mm in the back so the rear bumpers would be in the right spot.  other than that its been a lot of super glue and cutting with the razor saw.

Looks like it off to good start.  It should look really nice with all the resin and PE you are adding.  Even though the Italeri 5-tons are pretty basic, with a bit of work, they can come out great.  I have built a few over the years.  Have you seen Vodnik's Super Detailing Article on them as well?

I didn't even think to check to see if Vodnik had done a article on it, I'll go read it now. Thanks for the reminder.
