1/35 US Armour ARV

The M88 was not fielded until 1961, so it may be too late for the time period you are looking for.  The two more likely vehicles would have been either the M74 ARV or M51 ARV.  Both are only available as resin kits, both from Perfect Scale Modelbau out of Germany.

If you are looking for later in the '60s and the M88 would work, you want the Vietnam M88 version by AFV Club.

Thanks for that , i just got hold of a copy of Tankograd US Army Germany 1945-1969 and there 2 photos

of an M88 in Germany,and am getting a copy of the Squadron Signal walk-round book on the M88 to research the vehicle further.

Wasn't there an "in-between" size?  Something built on one of the SPG chassis?  I want to remember the USMC fielding that smaller vehicle until M88s became a necessity with the early Abrams coming on line.

Yes, the M578 VTR, which was built on the M110 chassis.  It is available in full kit form from Perfect Scale Modellbau.

It was also available as a conversion from Verelinden.

The M578 was originally built as a stop gap to assist in changing barrels on the M107 175mm howitzer. It was mainly part of the equipment for M107 or M110 battalions. In time they were deployed for other uses. More of a combat crane than a recovery vehicle.
