Looking for TII reference pictures, the Academy TII comes with transportation tracks and no Zimmerit.
I have not found any reference pictures.

The so called "Octopus Scheme" Tiger II, as depicted on the box art, is one example;

Disregard the backwards swastika, this was added by US troops after the vehicle was abandoned. Note that this  3./sPzAbt 510 vehicle has been scuttled by it's crew, as the gun is jammed in full recoil.

3./s.Pz.Abt 510 received 6 Tiger II's directly at the Henschel factory in Kassel on the March 16th  1945. Three more shots of the same tank;

A different vehicle, no Zimmerit, with transport tracks, although not a final production variant;

Final Production model;

A Google search for "Tiger II transport track" will yield other photos.

Ixion,

Thank you, sorry for being a newb :|

What are the dimesionall differences between a Panther and a Tiger mark 2?

Is the chassis basically the same?

Some progress:

The torsion bars have been glued in the most downward possition, only attached to the inner hull yet.

In simple terms, the T2 has a 9th interleaved wheel, the Panther 8. That puts about another meter in length.

GMorrison,

Thanks for the update !

My thinking was that the Tiger II is actually closer to a Panther then a Tiger from an engineering concept point of view.

I can clearly see the difference now that you have pointed it out. But why Tiger II and not Panther II?

What is in the mening of the Sd Kfz designation?

The Panther Series are Sd Kfz 17? and the Tiger series are Sd Kfz 18?

Is it weight? Battlefield designation, Infantry or Heavy?

Ixion,

Thank you for the additional refernce pictures - much appreciated!

Many Thanks for your input guys!

Tonight I hope to get the lower hull, the upper hull and the turret completed.

OK my knowledge of tanks is limited, but since you asked:

Probably more like why wasn't the Panther first named Tiger B?

Sd.Kfz. is an ordinance inventory name, the term means Sonder Kraft Fahr Zeug which dissected literally means "special powered go thing", but really means "Special purpose vehicle", i.e. military vehicle.

The designation of a tank would be Pz.Kfw literally meaning "armored fighting vehicle" but really meaning "tank".

Panther is Sd.Kfz 171, Tiger (1) is  Sd.Kfz 181, Tiger B (2)  is Sd.Kfz 182.

Others more knowledgeable can now have their fun.

 Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

Hi,

Thank you for your support!

The kit builds nicely but is over the top in some areas;

The rear turret door, loading door escape door.

Following the instuctions I get something that does not look right.

Should i sand this flush?

Get a weld bead in there?

Leave i as is?

Thanks!

I'll leave that to people who know. It's funny though looking online for photos. I have had this problem before with museum stuff- it's too tall to see whats up there and no way you can climb on it.

It's not easy to find clear photos of this area. The hatch is slightly recessed into the turret rear;
