My info confirms renarts. Sources are Heeresdienst - vorschrift 272 (HDv 272) 24mar41 and Kreigsgliederung des Feldheeres 15may41 as shown in "Panzer Modeling Masterclass" by Tony Greenland.

Joe,

StuG IV should be the parallelagram with the arrow. The left side of the parallelagram is a heavier line than the right. An arrow pointing upwards with the line going through the upper horizontal line of the parallelagram and the roman numeral IV inside.

This was the tactical symbol from 1943-45.

Since alot of these were painted on, it could be that the IV was not in the photograph that they used for reference for the decal. Since the StuG III had the same symbol only with a roman numeral III, maybe the guy who painted it felt it unnecessary to paint the numbers in the symbol since (then) you could see the difference between a 3 and a 4.

The period reference for it would be the Taktische Zeichen des Heeres.

I have a question, the Tactics Mark of an Assault Howitzer IV (I am modeling a Stug IV) should be a parallelogram with an arrow but shouldn't "IV" appear in the parallelogram? The Tamiya decal sheet only has the tactics mark with the arrow or "T" but no "IV".

Let me know if I'm not making sense here I can post a picture.

Thanks
Joe
