Paint Colors for Tamiya 1/35 Panther Type A Parts
Posted by ModelMan on Thursday, August 27, 2015 3:09 PM

Hi everyone, I new at building armor and this will be my first tank. Suprisingly, the instructions do not indicate paint colors for the various parts. Would someone be kind enough to post pics (front, back, sides, top) that I could use to help me paint any parts that are not camoflagued? Thank you.

The Panther A was developed in 1943 -- its base coat was painted dunkelgelb (or dark yellow).  Then, additional colors of rotbraun (red brown) and/or dunkelgrun (dark green) were used as camouflage.  Only very late war tanks had camou applied in the factory -- so you're free to apply it in whatever logical pattern or amount as you see fit.  Everything was painted in the base coat plus camo colors except some tools and the cables.  For the tools, you can't go wrong using metallic grey and a brown for the wooden parts.  The box on the left sidewall is a jack block and should be wood with metal straps.  Here are pics: http://svsm.org/gallery/pzkpfwV

All the major paint brands have these three basic colors.  Since it's your first armor kit, choose whatever is best for you.

One thing to note: those tracks aren't very great and frankly, the kit is pretty inaccurate in general.  But have fun.  I hope it'll lead you to other armor kits.  A good basic primer is Kalmbach's "How to build accurate AFVs and Artillery" -- available at most hobby shops.

Razzie: the poster said this is the Tamiya Panther A and is his first armor kit.  Directing him about zimmerit or white camo or matching his tank with historical photos/books  isn't what he is seeking at this moment.
