Help with painting logs
Posted by jersey66 on Saturday, September 26, 2015 5:58 PM

I'm having trouble painting the logs on the front of my M36 Jackson to look realistic, I used a base coat of Humbrol dark earth and just not liking it, any hints and suggestions

If you can't find any twigs in your yard or garden to replace those with, then use a dark Umber wash and highlight with a light brown and sand color. At least find a twig in your yard that you can use as a reference.

Try using a grey base and the use washes as Mike mentioned. I made my own trees earlier this year and when I looked closely at real trees I realised they are not really brown.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

No problem. I'm always collecting twigs and anything that looks to scale for projects. I even have my kids bring me things they find lol.

And yeah, Bish is right, you should use a grey base. But since you already painted them brown ..... well yeah, lol.
