When I was a driver in the Army we would have rolled it up and stowed it in the vehicle. Tarps usually are not removed except to make room for cargo or when the vehicles are loaded on ships or rail.
By the book, the bows remained with the vehicle: https://www.tamiyausa.com/images/product/087/32548/header_32548.jpg
The softops over the cabs were rolled and stowed in the lowered position -- the crew could raise the mounting bow and snap it into place with the front windscreen rather quickly. There were lockers beneath the seats. Check each vehicle's Tech Manual which clearly desinates where each item was to be stowed. None of this was left to chance but the logisiticians planned it out in advance.

hey all,
ive been reading alot lately about the trucks of WWII,one thing i dont get...where are the bows and tarpulins kept when not in stalled on the vehicles? same with some of the soft topped rigs...ive seen some pics of half tops...or the top section only over the cabs and even the beds, sides rolled up...ok..but where the heck are they stored on the trucks when not in use?
if they were kept at a staging area or something...what happens when cross country and weather sets in suddenly?..everything gets soaked?
