                        Two quick questions, but I'll expand on them if I think of others.

                        Why was the first version of the Panther designated the Ausf D, while the second was designated the Ausf A? Didn't it go in alphabetical order? 

                        Why were the Tiger and Kingtiger considered the same Panzerkampfwagen designation, just different Ausfs?
