Are you using acrylic or enamel?
Either way the first step is a coat of OD green followed by a clear gloss coat.

hi, check this thread out!!!

http://www.finescale.com/fsm/community/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=16901

I didnt weather it, but what i did is this........ i sanded all the seams, and the rest is out of box. I just took my time and made sure i didnt have any glue showing,. Just take your time. Its a great kit. This was my first armor build. I painted the whole thing with Tamiya olive drab.

Once piece of advice, that was offered to me by hte judges was this..... because this tank was designed to be motorized, there are holes in the bootm of the chassis, Take some flat styrene and fill those in, putty it, and sand it smooth. If i did that i would have mosdt likley took first.

Hope this helps a little!!!

Nice. For the flat styrene strips... The bottom holes on it can be covered with these pieces on the sprue that are very flat. They arent even part of the sprue theyre casted. And theres two. Im gonna save em.

There are also slots in the hull sides that will be visible after installing parts A10 and A11 these slots and the holes in the bottom I backed with sheet styrene and then filled with putty. After sanding they are nearly invisible (a little more work and they would have been).

Hi
If you don't have an airbrush, but still want to have a nice finish, you can put about 3-4 coats of the base colour (no, not kidding) or you can go out and get one can of Model Master Olive drab (can of spray paint) and use that. Give it a wash and drybrush, and then you'll get more ideas of where you want to go from there.
