This would mean adding hatches, fenders, exhaust pipes and such to the hull; hatches and main guns to the turret. We used what ever we could find from old tin toothpaste tubes, now they're plastic, to nails, wire, string, screen, card board or what ever to detail the tanks.
Mine always looked like wood with a bunch of garbage added to it, but my brother and his friend made some really nice Tigers. It was a lot of fun.

Well, Ron, now we know where you started learning your scratch building skills!

LOL! I could've used your help when I gave my kids the 'birds and bees' talk.. I think you'd have been much more informative than I was!

Welcome,
Spamicus hit on my suggestion, my 4 year old son takes my junk 1/72 kits, traces and makes paper models from them. Obviously that is pretty crude compared to what you want but it illustrates the concept. He gets to see how parts interconnect to form a structure and it's kinda cool. You might want to think about trying a Tiger I, they are basically a box with a horseshoe on top and you will find gobs of reference material on it.

Welcome Devanshj. Most any of the Osprey reference books on tanks have very good 1/76 scale line drawings of the subject. These can be up scaled with ease. Just a suggestion, you may want to get an inexpensive plastic kit that suits your fancy and build it. Then you'd have a very good idea of what it's going to take to build in wood. My two cents.

devanshj: For ships try http://www.bluejacketinc.com/ and http://americanhistory.si.edu/csr/shipplan.htm for starters.

For tanks it's a little harder. George Bradford has 1/35 scale drawings of armor available. These are 4-view drawings but could be good to get an idea or basic hull/turret from.

BTW: I have family living near CMU.

First, welcome to the forums, we are glad to have you aboard.

Second, a good place to start any search is google.com

Finally, before we can send you all the information you will need, I think you need to narrow down your requirements. What era are you looking to model, from what country, and perhaps more specifically, what tank? These are some valuable questions to ask yourself before embarking on such an ambitious project. It will also help us get you the information that you need.

Hi everyone, I am very new to modelling and all this, I am really interested in building models, but I like to build the whole thing from wood and not just buy a kit and paint it. i dont know how to get started nor do I know what supplies are needed nor do I know where I can find blueprints so i can start. I have made a couple of boats nothing great from only matchsticks, and they look pretty good. But i want help from where i can start off my hobby...can anyone write to me at devanshj@hotmail.com and let me know how to start off, any help will be appreciated....thanx for your time
