I messed up
Posted by Kentucky Colonel on Friday, February 12, 2016 8:16 PM

I'm building a Dragon 251/7 Ausf D for a diorama set in 1945 in Berlin, I have the Bison decals for the 542 unit.

Now here's where I messed up. To get the inside detailed I went ahead and painted and weathered it all before putting the rest of the model together. It looks good. Now I want to use Ammo Mig late war colors on it. When I painted the inside I totally forgot and used old fathfull Tamiya XF-60 Dark Yellow all though the inside. The Ammo late war Dunkelgelb is much lighter. Now I'm not sure what to do.

I could go ahead and paint it the late war colors and do some heavy weathering to darken it some. I plan to leave the back doors open in the diorama and that is where they will show the difference the most.

I could just use Tamiya Dark Yellow but don't really want to do that.

I have a third idea. I have a Dragon 251/17 Ausf D. Now I could use the insides of that and paint it with the late war color and finish it as the 251/7 then swich  and when I build the 251/17 I could do a snow camo over the Tamiya I would use on it.

What do you all think???? I really did want the diorama to look right.

These are the moments when you have to make some BIG decisions as to what to do next.

In my case I would try to weather it all with some dark wash, mud inside and outside, an fill the interior with as many things I could like, ammo racks, tarps, helmets, etc...so less visible area would be seen. But thats just me.

I've made some big mistakes also and we all had. Many, like in my case, will just stop trying to fix it and just start again all over with another kit. Just my two cents.

Thanks.

I decided to get the other kit out and use that to start over and then later I'll remove and re-do the inside to make a different kit with winter camo.
