For larger, heavier loads, ropes were used.

Awesome, I can do rope for cheap!

I could even sim' some 2" straps/ buckle with masking tape and styrene/ PE

Thanks for the help.

Ratchet straps were not around during WWII.  The common military cargo strap was about 2" wide and made of webbing with a friction buckle on it.  For larger, heavier loads, ropes were used.

Guys: I'm finalizing my M4 High Speed Tractor and I'm thinking of adding some tie-down straps (2"-3" wide)to the flatbed but I was wondering if those were even used during WWII...versus good ol' ropes only.  Can some educate me please?

If they were used:

1.  Was the metal ratchet tightening device common too?

2.  My budget is used up on this build so any ideas on how to scratch-build them with lead foil, tape, etc...would be a huge help.

Thanks,
