Thanks Mark. I'll have better pics up soon, hopefully of the finished model.

Thanks guys. I guess the ROK pattern does look like MERDC. I have a good diagram of an M60A2 in MERDC, may try an -A1 (or -A3?) in that scheme next.

Just a wee bit...

The MERDC patterns for most  US vehicles can be found online. The Greeks also use a very similar pattern.

And some progress:

Lots of detail painting done, washes finished, tracks and wheels on. I still need to do some highlighting, add the antenna, and whatever other bits I've missed but not noticed yet. What's next is on my mind....

That’s a nice pair between the M47 and M41. The only M41’s I ever saw in MERDC were “gate guards” or in front of tank unit HQs. But they look sharp in camo.

A little more progress, M41 pretty far along, totally fictional of course, but fun still. Detail painting moving along on both, washes mostly done. I have to say the various stowage items from DEF are very nice, and should be really fun to paint up.

M41 first, then M47:

Thanks guys. I'm having too much fun with the "mule", and it's been a good way to clar out a long-term shelf queen. Truth be told, the M47 sat in the stash for quite a while itself.

Really sharp job there!

And good idea on the paint mule, I've gotten to use them more and move lately.

Washes on, Vallejo "wash for khaki and green vehicles" on first, then lower surfaces also have my own mix of alcohol and Tamiya desert yellow. Another shot of clear, then pinwashes. The white is toned down just enough, I think. M41 fiirst, to see how it works.

Thanks all.

I'm stuck with the hard edge as I don't have a place to spray. Id have an airbrush now, but space limits me at the moment, so all spraying is done outdoors.

I now have the white on the M47, and a coat of cleat flat, and will wait to proceed until I get the black and clear flat on my test mule, an old Tamiya M41 that I decided to paint up too, and try my favorite (I hope) wash on the M41 first.

Thaks, trying to get the "look".

Tan and black are brushed on, white will be also. I visited a model railroad shop today and picked up some Testors "aged white", gonna try it on a test unit and see what it looks like.

Thanks! Still trying to make up my mind if I want to attempt the soft edge or just go with the hard edge like you did.

On US vehicles in that MERDC scheme, the light color is Sand FS 30277. I don’t know what the ROKs use.

Looks perfect to me. I assume you hand-painted the black? I'm thinking of trying a MERDC scheme and am interested in how you did this and how you're adding the light colour.

Stik, I'm using the painting guide from the Academy kit for my camo, hoping it's still accurate for earlier tanks. What few pics I have seem to support that.

Rob, nifty scheme. Is that the same as the tank pictured on the old Squadron M60 book? Looks similar.

So the black is on, getting closer. The final color, white or light gray, will be interesting, as it looks to be soft edged where is blends with the tan, hard edged against the black. Anyway, pics so far:

I've always like the desert scheme that I think was used by our Marines in California. I would not worry about the head light guards; PE usually seems knife edge thin instead of the steel thickness they should be.

Thaks all. Stick, I'll take a look. I'm definitely going ROK......

Looks like the ROKs are one of the ones the don’t have...

I know Academy boxes this kit with ROK markings, and I think with some additional parts as well...

Looking good indeed!

Just in case you are interested or need them, Star Decals just came out with three sheets of markings for M47's in the service of various countries.

Working a LOT, very little bench time lately, but I do have the first camo color on, two more tocome (eventually....). I'm conditionally happy so far, tan is ModelMaster acrylic, cut with tap water, and brushed on. Reamining two colors will be Vallejo.
