1/35 V100 M706 Comando

I started a wip thread for this but I blew it off. I wont be doing anymore wips.

I had all these grandiose ideas but I ended up just building it straight out of the box. I'm not an armor guy but it turned out pretty good. I might do a little more weathering.

I'm going to put it in a case and give it to my buddies dad who drove a M706 as an MP in 1970 Vietnam. He escorted covoys in the Pleiku area.

And I made some awesome ribs last night!

Ohhh, Ribs.

Good job, it came out looking pretty good.  I built that kit as a A.F. Security Police version and discovered that the kit has a lot of spare parts that have to be sorted out because they built a multi vehicle version.  The floor is stamped as a V-150 and they even shot it in the instruction sheet so you have to be careful not ot use the parts for the much later types.  When I did mine the only original kit parts I have in teh completed paroject are the hull and the suspension system.

When I was in the Air Force I drove the M-113 and M-706.  The problem is that this is the XM-706E that I drove:

We used them for Quick Reaction Team patrols in each of the sectors of our bases.  We knew the Army version as the V-100.  The enclosed turret with its twin machineguns would have been nice, but we could also put out much more firepower with our two M-60s, M-174 automatic grenande launcherf , and the combined M-16s and M-148 launchers on some of our rifles.

Looks cool to me! A little shiney though, or maybe it's just the photos?

Thanks. Very cool to know two people who crewed this type of vehicle in real life. This was the Hobby Boss kit and you're right it has parts for two versions but the instructions don't really tell you what to use for what version. I had the Squadron V100 book and photos from my buddy's dad tour and figured it out the best I could.

Cheers, Rob

Gamera

You're right Gamera it looks shiney in the photos. I used Model Master lusterless and straight Vallejo pigment after that. I tried the pigment first and covered it with the MM lusterless at first but that made the pigment disappear for the most part. I'm not an armor guy and I might have used too many coats of lusterless and not the right aperture when talking the photos.

If you do a good pigment job what is the best way of sealing it? Or should you seal it? I couldn't cover the pigment without it washing out. Do you know what I mean? Especially the tires gave me a hard time. Thanks

Rob
