Rye Field DAK Tiger- wip
Posted by JTRACING on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 6:53 PM

hey guys, been posting some on facebook, finally got enough done so thought I'd share it on the forum also.
the build went together really easy with no real issues.
add a bit of texture with bondo and added a few welds around.

I'm just starting on the painting now, I use dupli-color primer, and then everything else is craft paints.

Yes

Looking very sharp so far! How would you compare it to other companies armor kits for fit, ease of build, etc. Particularly if you have built other Tigers in 1/35.

F is for FIRE, That burns down the whole town!

U is for URANIUM... BOMBS!

N is for NO SURVIVORS...

It's quite excellent I'm no expert on tiger tanks. This is the first one I've made. But it fits together perfectly, has photoetch grills and tool clamps. Has excellent workable tracks. I forgot to post them! Give me a sec and I'll show those also. All in all great kit, and cheap for everything you get.

Wow,that sand color really looks great.I've heard good things about this kit,and you are certainly doing it justice.

I have to ask,I'm doing Dragon's Tunisian Tiger right now,and David Byrden's site calls for a tropen  scheme of RAL 8000 broken by RAL 7008.Im not seeing that or are you going your own way on this.

Please understand I'm not being critical, just conversating.

Thanks,Anthony,

I like the finishing on the turret.  Very convincing weathering.  You used craft paints on this? I'm curious, are they expensive?  Are they oil or acrylic?  How do they compare with hobby paints like Tamiya, Testors or Vallejo?

Thanks!

on the color I'm just going with the basic dark yellow that I always think of on an Africa vehicle lol, the rye field instructions call for "RLM02 gray" looks like a greenish yellow in their drawing, they don't show any type of camo pattern just one color.

the paint I use is the stuff you can buy at the dollar store, it's acrylic, once you figure out how to thin it, it works great. I use Liquitex airbrush medium to thin it.  And with some I use my own thinner of windshield washer fluid/water/glycerin,  It's nothing like the normal model paints as it requires a bit of messing around until you figure it out

JTRACING

the rye field instructions call for "RLM02 gray"

Rye Field have never given accurate color directions on a Tiger kit. I don't know about their M1 kits.

so after it being pointed out to me a million times lol, I added camo stripes around the tank. the Rye Field instructions don't say to add anything!  i figured the best way to add them after the fact was to spray them with thinned down artist oils. worked pretty good

That's a really good-looking finish. I don't know how you could improve your techniques except for studying the photos of individual vehicles and reproducing their quirks exactly.

I went around the tank adding a bunch of tiny chipping and scratches, added some stuff on the back like a bucket and extra track. and detail painted the spent round on the engine deck.

Excellent paint and weathering.  Just right, it looks real to me.  The tracks as well. Nice work.
