Academy 1/72 M977 8x8 Cargo Truck

Hi folks. Here's my take on one of the work horses of the modern army - the M977 8x8 Cargo Truck. This kit is from Academy and part of their excellent ground vehicles series (I can recommend them all).

I've painted it up US desert camo using Vallejo and tamiya paints, windsor & newton oils and mig & Vallejo pigments. Built straight out of the box, there's plenty of oportunity for scratchbuilding cargo and trailers.

Looks pretty good.  One issue I see though.  You have the whole left side of the cab hanging off, not the driver's door open.  The door is only the raised part on the side panel.  You can see it in the below pics.

Good spot HeavyArty! Limitation of the kit (and my lack of detailed knowledge).

If I tackle the kit again (and I will, there are some very cool black/green camo options I'm itching to try) I'll definitely look into cutting the door frame out.

OKB Grigorov does a photo etch set for the Academy kit. Actually, two different one. One is a detail set and the other is the armored cab that allows for the door to be opened, or so I've heard.

Cheers Rob. Having had a closer look at the cab, cutting the door out doesn't look to hard. I'm definitely interested in the detail set though. Thanks for the heads up :-)
