Exhaust deflector for M1A1 (W) 76mm

Thanks for replying to my question on the M-18. That purchase will have to wait for awhile, but I'm pretty sure that's my next project. It does seem like every kit I buy is outdone by some other manufacturer as soon as I get it.

I did go to the Shapeways website for that exhaust deflector. I also ordered their periscope guards. We will see how it all works out.

One more while I'm here: who has the most accurate M18 TD?

I just built Academy's M-18 and it was decent.  The plastic was a little soft and the detail was lacking in some areas.  The fit wasn't bad but the tracks will probably require aftermarket replacements if you really want an accurate representation.  The only experience I have with AFV Club is their M-10, and it was a nice build with very few issues.  I really don't think you can go wrong either way, just don't expect the detail or ease of fit that newer kits have.

Thanks for the info on the M18. I guess I'Lloyd see which one I can find. I'm  tending toward the Academy  version right now.

I was referring to the louvered screen attached to the rear of the M1A1. It was supposed to help avoid making huge clouds of dust from the vehicle exhaust.

There was a lot of variation with the exhaust deflector since some were put on during production and some after production.

Are you referring to the muzzle brake on the 76mm M1A1 tank gun?

As far as kits of the Hellcat goes, there  are only two choices in 1/35, Academy  and AFV Club. Each has its pros and cons. I have built the Academy kit, and it builds up decent with a choice of barrels ( with or w/o muzzle brake), choice of link and length or single piece vinyl tracks, and a decent interior that includes the drivers compartment in case you want to have the front hatches open.
