what glue for rubber tracks?

This depends on which Tamiya kit you have. If it is their ancient, collectable M4A3E8, the tracks are vinyl and can't be glued; they need to have the connecting pins heated slightly until they mushroom like a rivet and then push it flat with your finger.

If you have their newer M4A3E8 Sherman (like a $40-50 kit), then it is now molded with a gluable vinyl and you can use regular liquid cement to assemble it.

If it's the old kit, those things were motorized. Those vinyl tracks were a huge compromise for that purpose.

In the past, once I gave up building running tank models, I took a different mind set and built them with good hard connections in places where the run is straight, like the bottom under a road wheel.

It would be my suggestion to not build the older kit. It's out of scale and out of date.

With the newer kits you have all kinds of options for track, in addition to what's in the box.

It is one of the old kits with the motor. I got it for about 10 UsD and want it to learn the basics of armour building before I invest in more expensive modern kits.

The black thread will work best if you are going to use the vinyl tracks as intended.
