Sdkfz 250/7 mortar carrier conversion....progress pics.
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, March 24, 2004 7:52 AM
Hi everyone.

This is my first chance to show everyone some of my work.

I am converting a Tamiya 1/35 Sdkfz 250/9 to a 250/7 because I stole the turret to repair a Sdkfz 223.

I made a new floor from Custom Dioramics treadplate, used the kit driving compartment and some bits and pieces, and then scratch built the racks on both sides, all ammo containers bar the one in the doorway, the ammo racks, the containers beneath the mortar, the pedals, all straps, the first aid kit, the headset, the wiring, the soft stowage, the tarp, two seats and the barrel container. I used Tamiya's equipment for the mg ammo and for the mortar itself.

Painted and drybrushed with acrylics, washed with enamels.

Hints, comments, criticism, advice and thoughts all welcome.

Matt

P.S. Here are the links for the pics incase it doesn't work! (my first go....)

Hehe, good thing for the links, as I couldn't see the posted pics. Looking good so far.
Which acrylics and enamels did you use? Also, how long did you wait for your acrylics to cure before washing with enamels? Im just wondering, because I want to try that myself, but am afraid that the enamel thinner will react with the acrylic.

Matt,

I saw those when I was posting Tigerman's pics earlier. Wow! Are they ever fantastic. Wonderful work.

I'm going to repost your links below so people won't have to click over to Ron's site. Be warned, though, that as soon as he moves them to the armor site or whatever, these links won't work and you'll have to repost them if you want them here.

Congrats on what you've done.

Bill

Thanks for all your encouragement! I am having a lot of fun with this one.
Special thanks to Bill for making the pictures magically appear!

The half-track is moving along really well now, but I will post when it is more or less finished. Which will be sooner rather than later, because of a couple of group builds rapidly approaching!

Zokissima, I use Tamiya acrylics, and I let them dry for two days or so. It is quite dry here in South Australia, which helps. I used humbrol enamels for the wash, with turpentine, but I am changing over to oils now. (I didn't have any black oils!)
I will wash over a gloss acrylic coat now, because that helps a lot.
I get more worried about washing with the same sort of paint than I do about different types for some reason.

Swerdna, I am going for a 1942 Eastern front Grey scheme, but haven't narrowed down the markings yet. Got to go to the library soon so I will try to find a story I like!

Thanks again, everyone.

Matt

Looking great Matt. Forget my post in the towed gun build, I see now that you live in SA. Could say something about the Crows and the Brissie Lions, but I won't , cause I follow the Demons!

That's alright Peter, I am a Western Bulldogs fan! I hate the crows!

Got a bit of a soft spot for the Demons and the Lions. (My sister lives in FNQ)
