Hi all, does anyone know of any good kits of WWII Russian armour? I bought vallejo's 4BO modulation set and want to try it on a kit.
Never give up, never quit, never stop modelling.
In 1/48th, probably Tamiya's JS2 Stalin tank. In 1/35th, the realm is too wide open and you'd need to narrow it down to specific type like KV, T-34, JS.
Just for trying a paint modulation set on a Russian Armor kit, go with Tamiya at both scales. To add to what Rob suggested, the older Tamiya 1/35 Russian WWII era kits are very affordable and you can build them up quick. This way you can get right to the painting stage.

I don't have the number, but AFV Club has a really nice T-34/85 with an interior, not the one with the see thru hull.It might be 35145
Also Dragon 6266 comes with bedspring armor
And as I mentioned the Tamiya ISU-152 is steller
In 1/48, you have the Hobby Boss range of T-34's, which have full interiors. 400 or so parts (T-34/85) building a model about the size of 2 decks of cards.
Hobby Boss also has a range of KV-1's & 2's in 1/48, but these don't have interiors.

Second Trumpy's KV line. Strange that Dragon hasn't put one out yet. Hopefully Tamiya continues up-sizing their 1/48 line into 1/35.

I'm not sure there are any really bad kits of the T-34 unless you go with some ancient Eastern European or Russian kit like Eastern Express. The old Tamiya kit is so-so if you fill in the battery and motor mounting holes.
The Dragon T-34s are really good. I have the AFV Club kit and though I haven't built it, it sure looks good in the box. And DantheMan85 here built the recent Academy kit and didn't seem to have any issues with it.

Hi German Armour,Interesting approach, buy a jug of paint and find a random vehicle that could have been painted in that colour.Check out this link:http://www.4bogreen.com/colors
My advice would be to make up your mind on what you want to build first, then find a local supplier, or go to any of the online shops. The link suggest that all Russian armor were painted in 4B0 Protecive Green during WWII.I have found nothing that would withsay that. That does not mean the vehicles where the same color.Plenty of suggestions in this thread, go wild :)My suggestion would be a KV1 from Trumpeter, a T34 from Dragon or the newly released SU-76M from Tamiya.Good luck with the Valleyo set, and please post your results!
4B0 is allmost as exiting as OD ;)Best RegardsJohan

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.
Johan, thanks for the link(s). Good info in there. And yes, 4BO is a lot like OD.
So what would be the closest match straight out of the bottle. I've read that it was never standardized, unless I've sniffed a bit too much glue.
German ArmourHi all, I just bought tamiya's 1/48 Su-122 #32527. Any idea's or comments?
and a build review here: http://modelingmadness.com/review/misc/vehicles/tmc/tmcsu122.htm
Hauler probably does the best (maybe the only?) sets for the Tamiya SU-122, although Eduard probably does a set as well. They also do an engine set too.

Hauler also does a set of fuel tanks for the T-34/SU-122https://store.spruebrothers.com/product_p/hlrx48085.htm

Does anyone know of any sets of equipment for WWii Russian vechicles? I bought tamiya's 1/48 BA-64B and would like to detail it.
