I just took a closer look at your signature picture. WOW!! where did you find that picture!?!?! I love the Pz IV track on the front, and do you know what that square weld is for on the side of the turret? looks like one of the Tigers that should have an antenna there, but it is not there. Anyway, cool pic... Big Smile [:D]

The welded square is most likely a shot-hole patch. It is the Tiger that was at Aberdeen.

Thanks edog. I get all my Tiger pics from http://www.worldwar2aces.com Go to the bottom of the link that comes up and you will get a section that says photo gallery. Thats were I get them. There are also some awsome Tiger 1 links below listed under recomended links! Not exactly sure what the square weld is for, but the tiger in the pic is a captured tiger. You can see the US GI in the commander's cupola. The german tank crewman before the tank was captured, probably put the Panzer IV treads on because there was a couple Panzer IV's in their division that needed extra room to store their extra treads. Treads were put on the front armor plate not only for storage, but for more armor againts hits. Maybe the german crewman wanted to sacrifice some old treads they didn't need instead of their own desprately needed treads if they took a hit dead on. My gues is they probably took some old panzer IV treads and put them on for protection.

If the first number is a 7, and it kind of looks like it might be, then this should be a pic of the Aberdeen Tiger #712.

After having the side of it's turret and hull cut open, lying neglected and rusting away at Aberdeen for decades, I am happy to report that this great cat has had it's exterior restored and now sports a 3-color camo instead of his original Desert Brown. He sits happily in his new home at the Panzermuseum Munster.

IIRC ... the Tiger was sent there for restoration and will reside there until there is an adequate building to house this and other vehicles at Aberdeen.

Well, tell the Army to take better care of their toys and we would have this problem! Wink [;)]

I'm just glad to see these rare animals being taken care off, instead of just rusting away into oblivion. I can't wait to see the new and improved Patton Museum at Fort Knox.
