Friumodel track question
Posted by Kentucky Colonel on Friday, August 4, 2017 7:54 PM

I'm working on some Friumodel tracks for different models and now I'm not sure how many links I need on each side for each model.

All of them are Dragon 1/35

Panther A Late

Tiger I Late

Jadgtiger

I was going by what was used for the Triger I in the kit but for some reason I was one link over. So now I'm not sure how many Friumodel links are needed for each model.

Thanks for any help.

Count the number of links on the tracks that came with the kits you have......

.......should put you very close, then it's just a matter of adjustment.

If the kit has rubber band tracks, you can measure your run against the kit run, again it should be close.

If your not sure, add a couple extra with a bit of extra wire sticking out, then you can just remove any if needed or just trim the wire if its ok.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Yeah really it is what looks right.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

Tiger I friul box has 220 links. divide by 2 (110) and then start putting together. I would do runs of 10 and then link them up and around 80 test fit to the kit. you will have spares left over which come in useful for spare tracks to go on the kit. At as rough guess I would say around 85-90 should do it.

Jagdtiger is longer and the tracks are different to the tiger so, if my big trumpeter 1/16 build is anything to go by, and I am just about to fit the tracks in the next day or so then 48 flat and 48 toothed tracks should be enough (96) per side... depending on the version you bought, still, all the Tiger II/Jagdtiger friul tracks have 210 links in the box so you will have spares over. Again useful for mounting on the kit.

I would say the same number for the panther too. Look at 96 per side, but have a dry fit at 80.

When it comes to painting etc I would recommend Xtreme metal Gunmetal on to the tracks without priming then leave for a day so that the paint can cure before fitting. A rub over with sandpaper first would help too.
