First off, it is a turret, not a turent.  I don't know why some people call it that.  On the M109, the shells were all stored in the hull.  The left rear side of the turret is where the powder cans were stored.

It's a common typo because of muscle memory. Many English words end in "ent" and the vast majority of typing is done subconsciously. Same reason why the word "statue" is often misspelled as "stature". You're just used to typing the more common word ending.
