Thanks G, and i agree. I don't have a single model thats not on a base of some kind. If for no other reason it means i don't have to handle the kit.

Personally I think even a simple base looks better than plonking the model down on a table. I may have to try some small bases like you use for my aircraft too. 

Thanks Mike. I did have an adfvantage with tis one in that i have seen them close up in action. But i also found a lot of photo's on Prime Portal to be really useful.

Kien, i use a mix of woodlan scenics flock, some of which does stand and Greenland grass tufts, which come in a mix of sizes.

Bruce, yes it is. Its a bit thick for my likeing. I prefer to use a material that similar to that used on pool tables which i used to be able to buy in rols from a local DIY store. But they seem to have stopped selling it.

One quick question, is that felt on the bottom of the base?

Great build! The pigments look great and the tank and goes nice with the base. How did you get the grass to stand upwards in tufts? When I apply grass I do it by hand and tends to lay flat. Do you buy premade tufts? Or do you use the static grass applicators to get it upwards?

I also agree with the other comments on the completed build! Excellent, as per your usual work. Although you have created some other wonderful dios, I particularly like this understated one. Now i can call this properly done. Got the base finished at the weekedn and just got the pics. But first a correction.

I have mentioned that i am building a vehicle of the 19th Regt RA. I based this on the fact that the unit which belong to the same Brigade as my battalion in the 90's was Scottish, and that of the 3 current AS90 Regt's, only the 19th is from the far north. But last week i was looking up Topcliffe, the base in N Yorkshire where 19 Brigades artillery was located. And i realised that 19 Regt left there in 1993, 2 years before my battalion joine dthe Brigade and became an Armoured Inf battalion. A further search led me to a site i had not seen before which lists a brief history of all British army units. And indeed, 19 Regt RA moved to Colchester in 93 and did not even recieve AS90's until 1999.

It dawned on me that while i had looked at the 3 current AS90 units, i ignored the fact that there used to be 6. 19 Regt mrege a few years back with 40 Regt, also from Scotland. And a bit more searching revealed that indeed 40 Regt was based at Topcliffe in the late 90's, equipped with AS90 and a part of 19 Brigade.

Funny how the memory can play tricks. You see somthing that you think fits and the minds tells you that was it. Fortunatly i had not printed the nameplate. So, with that sorted, here are the pics.
