RamboThanks for the info Bish. As for the tamiya 251 hanomag, that was just one of the companies building the 251. It's like most tamiya kits and builds real nice and easy but it does show its age and had alot of inaccuracies, the water tank being one of the big ones.
Ye, i did build it years ago. I don't know why Tamiya stuck the hanomag label to it, as i understand the Germans didn't and most troops would have associated the name with somthing else. As you say, it was just one of the companies involved in it.

Mike, it should just be labeled Hanomag 251/1. There is some confusion as the outside is a C and the inside more like an A/B, plus it has the water container which should only be fitted to an Ambulance.
Rambo Bish I've looked at what afv club has over at spruebrothers I'm gonna add the /7 pioneer onto my next order I built the dragon /7 about 4 years ago so it will be a good comparison for me. Also will I need to order tracks or are they like the dragon tracks that you can make workable?

Most of the AFV Club tracks are like Tamiyas, the rubber band type. The only one i know that is not is the /4. AFV do sells indy link tracks as an AM set. I have a couple but not tried them yet.

Me too, It's not the first time (but I hope its the last) after some sanding it looks alot better I added the rivets back using dots of super glue so see where it's at after a primer coat.

No it's not the Ausf. C, it's the Ausf. A. I plan on using no AM except for some tracks. The rubber bands just look terrible lol.
Its just another decompression build anyways. I'm just not happy with the way the paint was turning out on that Tiger I was painting and I need to fix my armor bug for the immediate present lol.
So I'm not going crazy on a kit not worth the effort. Just building and enjoying it.
But yes, I need some tracks that are not toy-like.
I did build that kit many years ago Mike. You are talking about the old AusfC right. Personally, i would not add any AM to that kit, but if you really wanted to, some AFV club tracks should do the job.
I've got to get me one of those AFVC 251's. I'm working on the old Tamiya Ausf A and I grabbed a 3.7 anti tank gun to convert it into a /10. I was going to have it towed, but the kit comes with the mounting structures, so hey, why not?
How long has it been since anyone built this version by Tamiya anyways? Lol
Still having fun with it and I'm looking for some AM tracks still. Sprue Bros doesn't seem to have any in stock ATM. Any recommendations?
Bish Nice fit between upper and lower hulls. If you like the Dragon 251's, you should try the AFV club kits. Between the 2 of them, you can get a lot of the major variants of the Ausf C and D.

No worries. And i will be posting a build log on the /4, so hopefully you will get some idea.
Look forward to seeing more of this /16. Was just looking at your first pics again and really impressed with the detail on the flame equipment and how you have painted that. Also noted you have left the lower back piece off. I usually fit that before painting, but i can see why you didn't, will have to remember that.
So far i have built 2 Dragon kits, one C and one D, and an AFV D. Both build up very similar and the detail is about the same. I'll be doing the AFV /4 Ausf C early in the new year so looking forward to seeing how that compares, but so far i think the 2 brands are on the same level.
I have a bit of a 251 fetish with 30 kits so far, 4 of which are built, i have also done 1 Tamiya kit. AFV club kits are in the majority as i have tended to go for them over Dragon where they do the same version but thats largely down to price as the AFV kits tend to be cheaper but just as good.

Great kit! I am a huge fan of the halftrack. The interior paint and weathering looks great. Minus the little issues, it's coming along nicely. I'll be along until you finish.
I got the hull closed up today needed some rubber band force in a few places and I ended up with a gap in the rear section thats going to need some filler work. But in the end it went togeather easier then I thought till I noticed I left the radio out so gona have some tricky work getting that in later but no big deal. The biggest thing is some glue got under a rubber band when it was sitting up and now there is a spot thats going to need some work. I've started some sanding already and I'll have to add the rivets back but it could have been worse
I wounder why i can't see them on IE. I use Flickr and have no issues and can see otehr who use it. Might be the way you have linked your pics.

Is this the new boxing of this kit.
Been working on this for the past week or so it's my first kit back into building. Picked it out of the stash because you can make the tracks workable and I didn't want to wait on a order to come in since I like to build the tracks first to make sure everything sits level with the road wheels and what not. But in doing that I forgot how it's a pain to get the side panels and floor to sit right on these halftracks. In the end I got them togeather and started painting. For the yellow color I take a entire new jar of Tamiya flat white XF-2 and a entire jar of dark yellow XF-60 then from that 50/50 mix I eyeball more dark yellow in to I get the color I want. Plus that jar will last for 3-4 builds. After the paint sat over night I started the weathering first with some Tamiya Hull Red Xf-9 dry brushed light in some spots and heavy in others to show the primer under the paint. Next I did a very very light dry brush of Vallejo oily steel just on the floor. After that was a dry brush and more like stabbing of Model Master burnt umber to show more wear and tear. Then went back with the base color and drybrushed it in to tie everything back togeather. Hand brushed the gasmask holder and radio Vallejo german field grey then picked out detail with black, also open up a hole for wire later. The seats where painted Vallejo german cam. black brown since to me looks alot like dark leather. The last thing to be done up to this point was to go over the entire inside with Mig The Filter Brown for Desert Yellow. For being gone for 3 years it feals really good to get back into things.
