Potato masher (Stick Grenade M24)
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, March 29, 2004 5:58 PM
Could have posted this over on Diorama's DG, but here goes:

What color should I paint the explosive head of a German Stick Grenade (M24)?Question [?]
Not sure whether to paint it a metalic color like gunmetal, or paint it a shade of gray like german gray?Question [?] Any ideas?Question [?]

Also, the handle of one looks to be wood, correct?Question [?]

Thanks in advance!

I thought the head was stamped metal and almost black with directions printed. The handle was wood, with a screw cap at the end that released a little ceramic ball and string that activated the fuse, I believe. Might be wrong, I've never held one, but I've seen them in museums.

I guess, that since these are cheap, make in your basement automobile factory-coverted to wartime production of course, that whatever colors they had on hand went onto them. Also, different periods, and services(SS, Wehrmacht, Fallschrimjager, Luftwaffe, Kreigsmarine) all had their own colors*maybe*
