Dragons 1/35 Tiger 6383 W Zimmerit, getting started.
Posted by JohanT on Saturday, March 24, 2018 10:18 AM

Hi,
To make a long story short I have finally started on this kit after allowing it to mature in a wardrobe for almost a decade.

And found a couple of twirks I did not expect.

The gap between the bottom plate and rear end plate is me. I did not allign that carefully enough.
But the thing I would like to ask you guys is this:
The hole plate is covered i.e, the exhaust covers and heat deflectors are sitting on a rippled surface? Is this correct?

Also the smal brackets in the front supporting the drive wheel gearboxes are sitting on rippled surface?

I have a set of ATAK Zimmerit that I bought for 6253, the release prior to 6383 that came without the injection molded zimmerit surfaces.

This set definately has cutouts for the bolted on parts.

I don't realy want to carve of the stuff, just not sure if I should try to put some putty on to make the parts "sink" into the rippled surface.

Very Best Regards
Johan

Hi Again.
This is ATAK's resin, you can see the cutouts for exhaust and heat shield.

This is Dragons tower, apparenly the tower basket goes on top of the factory zimmered surface.

My question:
Is this correct

Best Regards

Yes, you're correct there. As I understand the tank would be assembled and then the zimmerit which was a cement like paste would be applied around everything on the tank.

Chipped areas might show some primer under the zimmerit but the paint all went down over it.

Nice work so far. Yes

Sorry, I was going to comment on your initial post but somehow missed doing it.

Hello Gamera,

Thank you!

I guess my issue is that it is not clear to me where the welded on square nuts would provide enough clearance for the Zimmerit layer and where not.

I guess the heat shields are OK but the cast armor arround the exhaust is not.

And I serioesly doubt Zimmerit under the turret bin, that would have been a wasted effort.

After a visit to Mr. Byrdens place http://tiger1.info/EN/Welded-hull-plates.html I am OK with the bolted metal plates protecting the final drive cover in the front.

Once again thank you for taking interest and your encouraging words :)

Very Best Regards

The bin would of been put on before the zimmerit and I'm guessing that it would of just came up to the exhaust covers and they would of been unzimmerited (sp?) and looked sunk in a bit.
