ICM...any good?

I've got ICM's T-28. I haven't built it, but it looks okay in the box. It seems to have that "eastern block" soft plastic and the parts a bit too thick for the scale. Can't comment on fit yet. Having said all of that, I was disappointed by my Eastern Express KV-85, but after I worked it out I'm really happy with the overall appearence, certainly not a Dragon or Tamiya quality, but can be very satisfying to finish up.

I'm like Spamicus, I have the T-28 in a box , along w/a flammpanzer and a luchs. Same comment, nice detail, great casting ....should make a good model.

I do not recommend it! I have the t 28 bridge tank and it is covered with some kind of stuff that i cannot get off. It is about ready to go to the scrapyard. But maybe it was just this kit.

ICM I believe is out of business right now. It's one of the reasons you can pick up the kits for cheap. Alanger and Squadron have a whole bunch of stuff at very cheap prices. I ordered their Ural truck with 100mm field artillery. The artillery stuff is A+, as the detail is outstanding. The truck is very nicely detailed as well, but the quality of the mouldings...well, it's definitely not clean. I only scanned through the sprues and noticed quite a bit of flash. They're kits that will take work, but will definitely stand out once done. They're very good subjects for modelling, as they are not exactly commonplace. The kits will take some work, but will be well worth it when finished.
Oh, and DON"T order from Alanger. I'm sorry I ever did. I got a discount, but the expiry date on it was BEFORE my order date. They charged my card, where I filled in my FULL mailing address, and they still couldn't get my kit in time. I guess they don't know how to read their own forms.
Very bad experience. Stick with Squadron if you want to order ICM over the net.

I ordered several kits from Alanger on Saturday (27 March) and received them via UPS on Tuesday (30 March). The Eastern Express kits were $9.88 and the PST 1/72 scale kits were $3.88 during the weekend sale. Prices were slightly higher today since the sale ended.

I recently finished the ICM BS-3 100mm Russian anti-tank gun (a field artllery piece). It was excellent. Fit was on par with other, more popular kit manufacturers, and the detail was both delicate and exquisite. There were 8 individual pieces for the sight alone. As with most East European kits, the plastic was a little softer than the "standard" stuff. I've seen some of their other kits built up, and they all appear to be very detailed, accurate replicas.

but I've heard it from many other sources. Namely, the hobby shops I frequent. I blieve that ICM is now Alanger, but as far as I know, all the kits they offer are from back stock. I did not hear anything about any new mouldings or anything like that.
Hopefully I'm wrong though, as their kits are fairly nice, and definitely interesting subjects that only they offered.

There ya go. Those historical miniatures, the box that comes with a vehicle plus figs, are very good deals. Try them out, see if you like it.

But if you are hearing it from your hobby shop, I assume it's true. I wonder if Alanger is going to continue to make the ICM kits? Some very interesting kits there.

As far as ICM kits from allanger.... My first experience with them was a little off.... i purchased somethiing from ebay that was "out of stock". Now I could have thrown a gasket for someone listing an item they dont really have, but about a month later I got my kit. Its not the end of the world to wait a little bit, especially if the savings are there. In fact, nobody near me sells ICM kits locally!!!!

Anyway... my second experience with Allanger and my iT-28 (the engineering t-28 with the bridge- awesome kit) arrived in just about 2-3 days. Before I bid on the item, I sent an email asking if it was in-stock. I received a reply "yes" and the rest fit into place like it was supposed to (i paid via paypal, and the item arrived in about 3 days).

I like the ICM kits I have. I am about to post pics of the Russian tanker figure set that I just completed and was very happy with it. Cleanup was less than Tamiya figures, and just as involved as any resin kit that needs cutting/assembly as well. Some sets have some sinkholes in some areas but that can be cleaned up as well. The mold-release agent they use reminds me of cosmoline, so cleanup is tough on some parts, but not impossible.... and i recommend VERY warm water and lots of soap and an old toothbrush (only if the part is greased, otherwise just the normal routine of soap/water like any kit).

I find the fit BETTER than tamiya in may cases.

They are pretty good, but they don't have the fit quality of Tamiya's, and you need to spend some more time cleaning up. The results are very nice. They have good accuracy. ICM has been out of business since September 2003, but you can still get their kits. By the way, their Spitfire Mk VIII in 1/48th is the best on the market in terms of accuracy, even better than Hasegawa's.
