DUKW markings
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, March 25, 2003 11:05 AM
Hi there,
I'd like to reproduce either a French or English DUKW, but I don't know where to find the appropriate markings. Can anibody help me? I've already check on "DUKW in action" and the net but to date I was only able to find US subjects. Considering that I'll go to make my own decals with the markings once I've found what I'm looking for, I'll give for free a set of those to all the people helping me to find the infos.
Thanks a lot in advance for your time and kindness.
Ciao

Thanks a lot Ian! That's a good start. I'm not that expert in US markings so my questions are:
- do the 4 dashes mean that there were 4 numbers?
- apart of the numbers as far as you know were they wearing other markings or insignias (like the ones on softskins or afvs)?
Thanks a lot again

P.S.: you'll be the first candidate for a decal set if I can complete my "quest"...

hi Ciao , dashes indicate the numbers continue have yet to determine the full extent , as most pictures have censor marks over them , as to the other markings that is whole new ball game and given time i will work out some of l the markings , up to date i have identified 4 types of allied stars use , full circle large , full circle small, brocken circle large and same for small , also stars used on their own in both large and small sizes mainly on the forward part of dukw and the odd one in the centre , , as to ship marking ie landing craft numbers they are mainty on the foward section of the combing under the windcreen , and are as per ex LST 127/4 in white on black background . as i say it is an on going research project , cheers ian

Hi Ian!
Just a couple of questions: how long your UK DUKW markings research will roughly take? Will you mind once you're done to make a post to share the info you collected?
Thanks a lot again
