Artillery Shell Question
Posted by David from PA on Sunday, November 18, 2018 8:14 AM

What color were German artillery shells during ww2? I'm thinking possibly a grey or greenish grey but I'm not sure. Can someone help out?

Punch in german artillery shells.  When the page comes up they show all types of ammo, mostly with color pictures.  You should click on where it says to show more pictures and then decide exactly what type of round you are working on.  Som casings will be a different color, either from handling or age in a few cases. The shell casings look like they were made from brass like most otherammo.  After a bit of handling the brass will start to change from the oil on your hands of contact with some chemicals like lubricants or extended contact with packing materials.

Depends on the type of shell. A green colur, Olive Green, OD or field grey for HE and a few other types. Black for AP, yellow for AA HE shells. There are otehrs. The bok, German artillery of WW2 by Ian Hogg is a great referance for German artillery.
