Asuka M4A1 Sherman w/ hedgerow cutter
Posted by M1GarandFan on Thursday, November 22, 2018 11:43 AM

Does anyone out there have any insight into the Asuka kit mentioned above? The kit number is ASU35022 and it looks like the box cover is done as a kind of cartoon. I haven't been able to find a review of the kit. Thanks in advance for any info.

The basic Asuka Sherman’s are pretty much the best available in 1/35. Their M4A1 included. They build up gorgeous. More than likely, they just added a sprue with the Cullin  hedgerow device. And an educated guess based off of of their other products and accessories says that will be very nice too.

Thanks, Stik. That's what I wanted to hear (of course). I appreciate the input. It now remains to be seen whether I can get to it before it goes out of stock like the rest of them seem to be.

Thanks again!

Are they not re-boxing of the Tasca kit. From what i can tell, Tasca did the same kit with the cutters in the same style of box. According to Scalemates, the tasca kit is avaliable in the US from Kitlink.

Tasca changed the company name to Asuka. Why, I could not tell you. But if you see one, it’s the same molds as the other.

Yeah as SP said Asuka is the new name for Tasca. And their Shermans are the Cadillacs of the kit world. I don't know why they do the cartoon kit boxes but they've done it on their Sherman Firefly boxes as well.

Hobby Link Japan generally has much of their stuff in stock or can order it pretty quickly.

Gamera, Yes, you're right about the cartoon box covers. It's seems a little strange to me, and that's why I asked the original question.

I will try hobbylink Japan if my new local source doesn't work out. Thanks for the info.

The cartoons seem to be a Japanese thing. Sweet Models has a cute anime/manga gal and her cat in a series of cosplay costumes on most of their boxes. Which makes you think they're some sort of silly cartoony looking kits. But they're insanely detailed beautiful replicas- though 1/144th scale they have better detaling than some 1/48th kits I've owned. I've seen the same anime/cartoon boxes from Tamiya and Hasegawa too. So I guess you can't always judge the kit from the cover.

I think you'll be happy with any of Asuka/Tasca's kits.

Gamera, Yes, I'm really looking forward to trying out a Tasca kit. Thanks again for the responses.
