Finished! Sdkfz 250/7 Mortar Carrier.
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, April 4, 2004 5:41 AM
Hi everyone.

Just wanted to share a couple of pics of my first finished model since returning to the hobby.

It is Tamiya's Sdkz 250/9 crossed with their German mortar team and a fair bit of sheet styrene etc. A lot of the interior was scratchbuilt, which I posted pics of not long ago. There was only minor scratchbuilding and modifications on the outside, mainly removing things.

I painted it with Tamiya acrylics, weathered with oils and pastels, and the dull cote is Australias version of Future with flat base mixed in.

I have reposed and prepared 8 figures from various Tamiya sets in my usual Frankenfigure kind of way, and they will join the 250 in a very small display base setting.

Love to hear any comments, suggestions etc

Matt

I'm glad to see your modeling skills match your 'comedic stylings'.
Great stuff man.
Was it Tamiya flat base/future? I just sprayed a coat of future for the first time yesterday after much internal debate. It wasn't overly glossy which was fine by me.

i love the fine detail of the rust. you've put it building up in very realistic places and the effect is great. very nice fading too. keep it all up.

Thanks a lot for the comments everyone.
Nice to be known for something other than really bad jokes.

Andy, the local Future is Pledge One Go. It is in a white and blue container, and I got mine at a Woolworths/Safeway. Ausf, I used Tamiya flat base, about 50/50! I don't think you need that much base though, although the photos don't really show it, it is the flatest finish I have ever put on a model!

The display base/figures will take a little bit of a backseat to the group builds for the moment, but I will post pics when done.

Thanks to Ron too, for looking after the site that lets us share our work.

Matt,
looks great!
i have used the Future / Tamiya flat base combo,
bit more like 75% Future, 25% flat base.
so you can probably back off the flat some.

love the rust & fade job.

Nice, very nice :)
You said you painted with Tamiya acrylics..which did you use to paint it? German gray? I'm just curious, as I'll be doing some german stuff very soon, and it will be my first, so I need to know what to use :)
I was afraid that the tamiya colours were too dark.

Zokissima, it was German Grey. I find that by the time I go through all my weathering it lightens up nicely. I used to live in a small town that only had Humbrol paints, and then I used 67 Tank Grey. I think that was even darker. I have also heard that some people mix a bit of blue in with the grey, but I have been too chicken to do that.

I think Panzer Grey is nearly as controversial as German Dark Yellow, but i just by the Tamiya colours off the shelf because I like the smell of them and they wash up in water!
