Told ya I'd be back: Sherman Question again
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, April 7, 2004 8:51 PM
I got such good and immediate help from the last thread, I'm back for seconds. The tracks, as I was warned, are a pain in the butt, but not insurmountable. Once I finally manage to get those things together, I had a question about the tracks on the real thing. I'm assuming they were part metal and part rubber, unlike the German tracks. Question is, which part is which. Is it a rubber block with a steel "chevron" or the reverse? Just wondering for the painting stage. Same with the end pin connectors, were they metal, did they rust? I've gotten a little bit done on the rest, and should probably post some in progress pics so you guys and show me everything I've done wrong before it's too late Cool [8D]

What kit are you referring to? SHerman tracks came in several varieties. Some were indeed part rubber part steel. Some were all steel, some had all rubber pads. Can you tell me which kit you're building? Who is the manufacturer and which mark of Sherman are you depicting? That will tell a lot.

Monktrade - IIRC you are building the new DML Firefly Vc.
The tracks that come with that kit are the T-48 rubber chevron style.
The shoe itself would be rubber including the chevron, while the end connectors are steel. The kit also comes with the extended end connectors, they too are steel.

One more quick one. Would the rear deck of the Vc M4a4 be an appropriate place to fire up your Esbitt chemical stove and brew a kettle? I wanted to have two crew members around the kettle, with one kneeling on the deck side, and handing a cup to a weary trooper on the "pavement." Or, should they all be on the ground?
