Dragon M60A2 kit
Posted by Rob Gronovius on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 11:56 AM

Yeah, I know about the issues, but it was on sale at Dragon USA for $28 and with the Labor Day 38% off sale, it was just under $27 delivered.

I hadn't messed with an M60A2 kit since building a motorized Tamiya kit back in the day.

The price was right and it'll look like an A2 in the display case.

I don't know about the issues.

Build it! I'll be watching.

Well ya can’t go wrong with a bargain kit... it’s gotta be better than the old Tamiya A2. And yes, it will look like one once completed.

I bought it to build it. The A2 was before my time, but I served with many tankers who began life as an A2 tanker (my first duty assignment had been an A2 battalion earlier).

These are some comments from a knowledgeable tanker/modeler from another site. He's a bit of a curmudgeon, but very talented and quite knowledgeable.

My plan was to use the Esci M60A1 hull which someone gave me a resin CBSS bulge to adjust that lower portion of the hull.

I don't "care" enough about this version of the -60 series to really want a true to life accurate version of it. If kitbashing is too much of a hassle, I may just tackle it right out of the box.

The hull doesn't look bad, but there are some screw ups on it. They use the rear engine doors from the M48A3 MOD B kit, wrong. It has the fuel filler caps of the M48 kits, wrong. There should be only 1 on the right side, not the 2 they would have you use. The aluminum finned road wheels look pretty nice. The sprockets are the same as in the M48 kits, no lightening holes. The give you the late armored top loading air cleaners when the should be the unarmored top loaders. The CBSS bulge looks a bit under sized, but I need to take a closer look at it. The turret, the big deal about the kit and has the biggest problems. No mantlet cover. gun tube looks a little too big. Smoke launchers look undersized. Turret has a squareish look to it. the turret hatches look a bit wonky. Bustle rack bars look way over scale. nice PE for the bustle rack. They use the undersized search light from the M48 kits. Seeing a trend here? Lots of M48 sprues in the kit. Same DS T97 tracks from the M48 kits.

Congrads on a sweet deal!

I like the Dragon website, some nice deals there. I had to stop looking as my stash has exploded to hoarder statis. Reminds me of Squadron back when they used to run some crazy deals way back when...

Take a real close look at the way they engineered the turret baskets. The directions are not real clear. I am in the process of building the same kit. Also, they do not really show you where the tow cable brackets attach to the sides of the turret.

i think i was in that discussion somewhere else. For the price it will look fine and most of us A2 tankers would be hard pressed to remember many details that long ago.

i had the kit but "gave it away" and picked up the AFV CLUB one since i intend to build MY tank C-16 3-33AR. i have the bore evacuator one and fortunately a set t of AFV CLUB chevron track in my stash.
