German E-5 (Rutscher) Workable Tracks
Posted by Leichenmacher on Friday, October 11, 2019 9:32 AM

I'm working on the Das Werk Panzerkleinerzestorer (Rutscher), also know as the E-5 from the Entwicklung Series.  It comes with link and length style plastic tracks, but I want to replace them with metal tracks (and prefable with rubber pads too!).

Since it's a paper panzer, no one is offering tracks specifically for this vehicle, but after exhaustively reviewing photos etc., it seems like it uses the same tracks an Sd. Kfz. 251 uses?

AFV Club offers AF35081 with has the rubber pad (but are plastic tracks), and Masterclub offers MTL35250 (for the Sd. Kfz. 250) that are metal, with seperate metal pad pieces.

So my thought is to purchase both sets and put the AFV Club rubber pads on the Masterclub Metal tracks.

Can someone out there with either a Sd. Kfz. 250 or 251 give me some dimensions on their tracks so I can compare it to the dimensions of the E-5 tracks to confirm if they are the same (or at least close)?

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer!

Sorry, but I don't have any tracks to measure, but according to my sources a 250's tracks are 240 mm wide and a 251's tracks are 280 mm wide. That's all I've got.

We're pushing the envelope on information here... Wink

I've got a photo of the transmission for this thing, but not much else. Wooden mock-ups aren't much to work with.

Checked my 251 Fruils, 8mm x 5mm.

Masterclub does do a set of 251 tracks, with seperate metal pads. 35251.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Ok, so the tracks that come with the kit are 7mm wide.  So it looks like the Sd.Kfz. 250 tracks are very close (coming in at about 6.85mm).

I'd dismissed the 251 tracks from Masterclub because they have holes in them that this model doesn't have... they are solid like those of the 250.

But given that the 251 tracks are wider, I'll need to go back to the AFV Club site and see if they have the rubber 250 tracks.  But it sounds like this is as close as we're going to get!
