Artorius: Do they sell the" Polly Scale" brand in your hobby shop ? Its acrylic just like tamiya, for model railroad use mostly , well anyhow they have a color in thier line named " DEPOT BUFF" I think the bottle # is F414278, its pretty darn close to what you need , I used it on my jagdtiger and it looks real nice , the only problem is it doesn't go through the airbrush without being thinned a bit . Good Luck!Smile [:)]

I tried that on my Merkava and its a pain to hand paint. (no airbrush) OK it didnt look bad but it was not to nice hand painting with acrylic. This one shop that i normally go to has all tamiya paints (enam, acryl) but was out of stock. And he has said that so many times i hav lost count.

Keep well.

Tamiya enamels? They don't even sell those in any of my LHSs'. It's acrylic all the way. Why don't you use those?

Thanx a lot guys for all the help. I really appreciate it. And i can say YOOHOOO I got sum paint today. Humbrol that is. I get home just stopped short of using a blowtorch to open it and see that there is no yellow colour to it so i stick in a piece of plastic to mix it and to my horror some of the mix had seperated and it almost fused to the bottom. So after a good couple of min mixing it starts to look yellow and i start to paint. (will get pix soon, need batteries) So all is good this side of the world.
Thanx to Robert(Shermanfreak) for all the help with the colour matching.

Keep well.

Artorious,

Going through some old back issues of Military Modeling and found a great little snippet that may help with your problem. Vol. 33 #4 has an article on a Finnish Pzr IV. The article is by Jukka Purhonen and he mentions that he has done quite a bit of research onto vehicle colors along with a Mr. Esa Muikku, their studying and evaluation of paint pulled from interior surfaces or enclosed surfaces that have not been exposed to light, solvents, etc. so that they feel the color is fairly true, and he discusses colors and gives a paint mix using Humbrol Super Enamels.

DUNKELGELB (NACH MUSTER):
1 part 84+1 part 83+1part 110+1part 34.

He adds the caveat of:
"It should be noted that this is valid only fro the present range of Humbrol Super Enamels. I have noted that the color shades have not in every case reamiend the same when Humbrol changed their paints into the Super Enamel Series."

Another thing that he points out is that this mix gives a 1:1 unfaded scale paint color. Leaving the scale effect and weather fading to the discression of the modeler.

Hope it helps.

Mike

Always look for a match using RLM or FS color standards. I got some dark yellow that was definately dark yellow but definately NOT panzer dark yellow! Also be warned current RLM color standards are not always a match for WW2 RLM standards.
I believe the IPMS Stockholm website has a cross referanc chart that covers the major paint manufacturers, sorry I don't have the addy handy.

If your local guy can't get it, and you can't order it on the internet, then I would say
A) Settle for what you can get. If Humbrol has the color or the colors available to mix up the color you want then you may have to settle for that.
B) Look for alternatives. On occasion I have hit the craft stores and picked up acrylic paints that are normaly used for painting faux finishes on furniture or decorative use. They have more colors than vallejo or Tamiya combined, in many that can be used for any vehicle period or army. They are inexpensive and for the same price I pay for a 3/4 oz bottle of Tamiya paint I can get 2 oz of this acrylic. It is flat and though it is a little thicker it is easily thinned with water. I have run it through airbrushes and have used flow enhancers or inhibitors to slow drying time. If it works....use it.
c) Combine your efforts with other modelers and put together a combined order to make it easier for the LHS to get it for you or to get it over the internet.

Necessity is the mother of invention.

Good luck
Mike

That's one thing I look for in a hobby shop. A good supply of paints and tools and all the stuff that I might need in a pinch. The kits on the shelf don't matter that much to me, I can wait on them, but when I run out of paint I want a new bottle NOW.
So I feel your pain.

The LHS where I lived before is much like the one you describe. The guy who owns it is nice but he never seems to have the things I need. Thats when I started to use the www here you can get everything, it may take a couple of weeks but you'll get it. Im sorry if you won't be allowed to use this option, some times its the only way.
Oh like beav said watch the words, I understand that you are frustrated but we don't want to offend anyone. When I first joined the forum I went to the http://www.finescale.com/fsm/community/forum/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=11 and read about Forum Etiquette and Language on Finescale forum, theres alot of good info. This is meant in a good way, its nice to see people with your enthusiasm. Just keep the tone down.

WHOA, watch the words a bit, there might be some minors around here, surfing with their dads who are evily getting them involved with paint, and glue, and hunks of useless, profitless, resource mongering styrene. lol, just tone it down a bit, maybe you could censor yourself? like D***! ??? you can edit your post to, just click edit if you don't know how

I do feel your pain about the paint though-my LHS, never has any of that new Tamiya stuff that I want (specially the M1025 armaments carrier or the M113, or the new bradley)

Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, April 8, 2004 3:29 PM
Hi all
Just thought i would let u know how the Academy Tiger full int is going.

Well its not
All the interior is done nothing special there. My only real focus is on the exterior of the tank. All im waiting for is paint. (THE RAGE IS BUILDING) So far out of the 4 or 5 places ive been to dont hav the paint i WANTAngry [:(!]Angry [:(!]Banged Head [banghead]Banged Head [banghead]
Now all i ask is for a bottle of Tamiya Dark Yellow and Chrome Silver in enamel. There is one place that has Tamiya paint and he happens to b out of stock as usual(Been waiting for 2 months for RC spares) And all the other places dont sell it. This part of the world seems to be Humbrol MAD. Not that i dont like Humbrol i just dont want it for this job. And to boot most of the cans r rusted. D$%* USELESS PLACE!!!!!!!! SoapBox [soapbox]Censored [censored]My 2 cents [2c]
What am i going to do.Sad [:(]Sigh [sigh]
U guys just be glad that u dont live in this side of the world.
But otherwise all is ok on the build itself. Clean up here and there and everywhere.

Keep well.
