Panther Ausf D
Posted by Ferg on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 6:40 AM

Hi,

I'm new to this site, but overall I'd be an amature modeller hoping to gain more experience as I build more.

Anyway, I purchased a Tamiya Panther Ausf D (which has good reviews) and some extra after parts, metal gun barrel and some photo etch.

I'm curious, the tracks that came with the kit are fine - slight bend in them, which I think would/might not look to great when used, then you have a side skirt which would cover that issue.

Is it worth while buying some Friul tracks and leaving the side skirt off, or shall I just try the tracks and skirt that came with the kit?

Thanks

Personally I think I'd use the kit tracks and see how you like it. If you don't like how they look you can always pull them off and buy the Fruils.

As Gamera said, try the vinyl tracks and see how they look. Originally the Panther D kept its side skirts when it premiered at the Battle of Kursk, so hiding any track indiscretions would not be a crime. Also there are other makers of tracks besides Fruil which are less expensive and very good; i.e. Modelkasten et.al. Hope this helps.

The Panther's; A and G also have the vinyl tracks. Hard to hide the tracks on the A and AM tracks help a ton. With the skirts on the G they are mostly hidden.

Since I'm an advocate of AM tracks, I recommend them lol.
