QUOTE: The beauty of Armour building

Yeah, or the result of Armor bungling, as the case may be!

Thanks for you help.

I looked this guy over closely last night. I see the lip you're talking about, Robert. I didn't think the lip or the alignment looked right when I put it together, but not knowing squat about Allied armor, figured it must be right. What a mess. I don't know how I can get it all apart. If I could get to the inside of the seams, I could flood them with liquid cement and work them apart, I've certainly had to do that before, although not as large an area. But I'm not sure I can get to all the areas I'd need to cover with cement. Like I said before, I may just have to use a good ol' tarp or a camo net covered with leaves.

Thanks for you help.

I just dragged the kit out and gave it a glance Bill. Part of the probelm is that there is a lip on the top of the transmission housing that seems to be a little excessive. If you try to line up on that lip, then it will cause the part that's causing your grief to lie almost flat.

I was afraid of that. Really weird. The rest of the hull is "right tight"!!

Thanks

Definitely out of allignment Bill ... sorry I didn't respond sooner to your request for help but I was caught up in a couple of other things. The pics really tell the story though. You can always remove the parts and do a little sanding and filing as Steve has already suggested or the options are some tarps or nets strategically located.

Break out the tarp or file, sand and refit your transmission cover. But seriously, it should fit the same as on any other Sherman. It seems to me I encountered the same thing on my M4A4. I just fiddled around with it and sanded a little to get the correct fit.

Yes, believe it or not, I am still working on this guy. Just very slowly. I've got a bit of a problem. (I posted this on the group build thread, but I don't think most people are looking at it anymore.)

In this picture, you can see a plate with "bolts" in it that fits between the transmission housing and the front hull. On my Italeri Marines Sherman, the upper hull and the trans housing are in line and the plate just fits between them.

As you can see in the picture below (sorry about the focus), on the Firefly model, the trans housing is considerably in front of the line of the hull and the plate is laying almost horizontally between them.

So, is this correct or is it time for a tarp??
