Panther Progress -- New Pics 19 Apr --
Posted by wipw on Monday, April 12, 2004 4:31 PM
Here are a couple of pics of my Panther's current status. Let me know what you think. I think the "leaves" are a little too dense. I can still strip them off and try again if I need to. But it's getting close to being re-gloss coated before weathering.

I posted these pics in the group build, also, with a sightly different write up.

Thanks.

Bill

I am a german armor freak myself and I think that looks Awsome! Is that Italerie's kit with sheeted zimmerit? I think the zim is great too! Are you sure those camo spots are supposed to be white? I'm not a panther guro, just a tiger freak but just wondering. Excellent wipw!!!Bow [bow]Bow [bow]Bow [bow]

Wow! Thanks AM. That's great praise. It's the old Tamiya A with an aftermarket turret and Model Kasten tracks. I replaced most of the tools with ones from the Tamiya Pzkw IV On Vehicle set. The zimmerit is Tamiya Polyester Putty done with a Tamiya zimm tool set. A lot of the pictures I've seen of Ambush pattern camo have dunkelgelb "leaves" or spots on the green and red-brown portions of the camo. The picture I was trying to follow, although I didn't for the spot pattern, showed them as being white on tank 211. I don't know if this is accurate or not, but like I said, it's what was done in the drawing. I personally would assume that the tank crew would have used what they had easily on hand, which would have been the dunkelgelb. You got me.

Thanks, again.

I think you're being to hard on yourself Bill. They came in all shapes and sizes, so I don't think there really is a right or wrong. I know they were done in white and grey(which is almost what I did). I think we all do them to our own taste so to speak. My one observation is that the light leaves tend to really pop out. Still I think it is effective in achieving it's desired effect of reflection. I say it's fine.

I wouldn't worry about the starkness of the pattern Bill weathering and pastel will soften it dramatically ,... camo always looks wrong ( and yet kool at the same time ) It will look great when done , I assure you ! Fine camo job , my friend ! regards AND GOOD LUCK ! ,.... ShawnBig Smile [:D]

Definitely looks amazing. Can't wait to see it weathered and dusted.
As spector said, the weathering process will soften the paint effects and blend everything in anyways.

Thanks to you all. I put the numbers on the right side tonight. I had a lot of trouble getting the two to sit down on the zim, but I finally made it. Just a few tools to go, a clear coat, and it's get dirty time!

Excellent Bill! The zim and camo look great.
Wish I would have found one of those turrets, sure would have saved a lot of work.

Wonder if some "leaves" on ambush schemes could have been done in the interior buff, some were factory applied and that would have been an avaliable color.

Lookong good, Bill!
As mentioned previously, the wash 'n' weather phase oughta take down the intensity of the white spots a bit. Looks good as-is, though!

When's the E-100's turn??

Bill,
wooo-hooo!
looking good.
i think it threw me at first because the pic of the front is such a tigh close up,
but if the front looks like the back (density, etc) then i think you have nailed it!

you are on the home stretch now.
here is where the perseverance pays off.
congrats!

one word.... MUD!

Bill, it looks great and I agree that the starkness of the spots will go away with weathering... but oh please hurry. I can't stand to see a clean tank... it simply goes against the laws of God and man....

You did a super job with this old dog. You and Claymore68 should get medals for taking on this kit...

Can't wait to see it all doll'ed (dirtied) up...

Peace

Thanks for all the kind words and encouragement all of you. I appreciate them. I had a lot of firsts on this bad boy. I guess that's what modeling is all about! I've really enjoyed it.

I spent part of the weekend weathering the cat with oil washes. I think it came out pretty well. The light spots really toned down well. Here are some pics.

Unfortunately, I then put some pastels on and some of them came out pretty weird. One rust color I used went VERY mauv! I mixed them with some alcohol and I think they attached themselves pretty solidly to the clear coat (Tamiya clear) I used to seal the paint. It might be time for somemore oil washes!! (The muzzel turned out well, though!) I may have pics of this phase up later today or tomorrow!
