Tamiya M41- Walker Bulldog
Posted by BrandonK on Monday, August 17, 2020 1:44 PM

This is the Tamiya M-41 Walker Bulldog, one of Tamiyas first kits. It is very soft on detail and is begging for some additional work. I built this straight OOB, no add ons, no fixes. The kit needs the cupola windows cut out and clear parts added, the drivers sight glass is non-exisitant and needs clear parts. The underside of the lower hull has several holes for motors that are not part of this kit and the upper hull fenders are open underneath and need filling. It has no tow cables either.

However, all in all this is a nice little kit and builds quick and easy. It resembles what it should and was a nice change from more challenging builds. I don't know if the AFV version is much better, but with some addtional work this could be a nice little kit. I just didn't want to put in the hours on this so it is what it is. I enjoyed building it.

Brandon,

That looks great!  Did you paint the headlights?  They look pretty good for solid lenses.  And are those the kit tracks?  It goes to show if you don't over-complicate a build, good results can be had.

And you finish a lot faster than the guy who keeps on mucking around with the small details...  Embarrassed

Yes, I painted the headlights ivory and black as per photos I have. The tracks I forgot are AFV as I don't like the kit tracks. They are much better detailed.

Thanks for the kind words.

Hey Brandon, nice job on this M41. My daughter gifted me this very same tank and I'm in the process of putting together. Although I did paint the cupola windows silver and I replaced the kit's .50 cal BMG with one from Asura Models and I'll be placing clear parts for the driver's sight windows. All in all I can say that you put together a very nice clean tank. BTW the figure looks very good.

TigerII, thank you very much. It was a simple build and a nice break from the more complicated kits. I'm looking forward to seeing yours.

I had lots of fun when I built mine. Lots of lovely welding practice.

Unfortunately I've never finished the mild weathering I wanted to do.

Yours is looking top notch with those AM tracks!

Great work on the old Tamiya kit! The AFV tracks really help the model out.

That was the second tank model I built after the old 1/35 Tamiya Panzer II. Got the M41 for Christmas along with the old 1/35 Tamiya Tiger I. Think I had the M41 built in less than two hours.

Ya, that sounds about right. Only I have an additional 3 hours of cleaning up mold seams. Thanks for the kind words, Greysnake.

Nice work BK, you also did a nice job in photographing the model. Does that blue paper give you the sharp clean photos?

Sergeant

Thank you, Sir. I appreciate your kind words.

As far as the blue paper, I find it holds the colors better than white so that's why I use it. The sharpness is simply my Iphone 8, nuttin' fancy. Thanks again.

Here's my M41. I used the vinyl tracks and the tank commander is still being painted. One clean, one weathered and the AM .50cal MG.

It's a nice quick and simple build. It could certainly use a bunch of scratch work to pimp it out, but it works. Thanks for the kind words.
