I am not sure if there is an easy answer to this as it deals with color theory and I'm not looking to get a second degree in art. That being said, has anyone utilized or have a resource (cliff notes version) dealing with applying a colored tint over top of the paint job to subtly alter its appearance? For example, I watched a how to video dealing with Tamiya clear colors to liven up or change the painted model. This was done by spraying the clear (think transparent) colors either in primary colors or basic mixes directly overtop of the finished painted model. They did a yellow over top of olive drab as well as green and smoke over olive drab and it really made an impressive change (IMHO).
I typically paint armored vehicles in all the camo schemes and basic grays and beiges we all know. I am looking for an idea of how these tints would change colors other than olive drab without trial and error... I want to start off in the right direction at least.
Most of the references and sites I have come across are geared toward the artist/painter and not the specific genre of model building.
