My second tank. New Tamiya M3
Posted by knox on Sunday, October 11, 2020 11:29 AM

This is my second tank.  I have an M51 almost ready for paint.  Both are Tamiya, and I have had WAY TOO much fun building these models.  I am a figure and plane guy, not tanks.  I don’t know if I will weather the tank very much, but I can see that it could become an addictive rabbit hole.

There will be more tanks in my future.  I model for my own enjoyment only, but I will post pictures before I ruin them will paint.  I can take it apart for painting.  I at least learned that much from following armour threads. ☺️

My wallet is not happy about this new development.

Heya, Knox,

Nice work!!!! Going to look great painted up... How did the kit go together? Fun pretty much explains it, I'd say.

Keep up the good work. Can't wait to see it painted and in a diorama.

With Regards and Aloha,

Beware! It IS a rabbit hole, and with counseling, a manageable addiction. I've been a functioning plastiholic for over 50 years now, no one would even know, unless I let them see my "studio".

And you've picked two of Tamiya's better efforts, both good kits and well engineered. Have fun!

Lookin good Knox. Don't get carried away with the weathering, as I heard someone else say recently, less is more. I too am a figure modeler, but I also build military vehicles. I occasionally build aircraft, just not very well......

As for building for your own pleasure, apart from those who do commission work, is there any other way to build?

Thank you for the comments.  When I click on FSM icon, it goes straight to recent threads, and that’s usually all I check out. When I next checked in, my thread wasn’t to be found, so I read a few and went on.  Comments are hard to come by most of the time,  even on crazy amazing builds, ( and I am so guilty of this), so thank you for taking the time. I need to check deeper for content I’m probably missing.

Painting will probably have to wait a while. I’m experiencing the downside of using a CO2 tank for an air source. Empty tank, and a goofy work schedule. I’m going to retire soon, but I still may get a compressor for backup. The Mrs. is ok with that.

Thanks again, and I will post pictures of painted finish— good or bad—it’s been fun. I’m embarrassed to admit that I purchased a Tamiya Archer kit. (Sprue Brothers is only 40 miles from where I live—ug!), and I’m about half way through. Kinda cool weird with gun facing backwards, but fun to build.

Nice little build.  The rabbit hole just gets wider as you go deeper, until there is no escape.

When you get to the point of a compressor, take a look at the Fortress brand at harbor freight.  I have the 2 gallon unit.  Runs at 60db, almost whisper quiet, puts out 135psi , has two quick connects.  Can use for tires, or other things around the shop.  Can be had for around$165, once in awhile for around$135 on a coupon.
